Children will begin their learning hour in Oasis Village ( formally Johnston Hall)
which is inside the courtyard first door on the left.
What is the Workshop Rotation Model (W.O.R.M.)?
Beginning in the Fall 2000 our children began participating
in the Workshop Rotation Model of Sunday School. This new style of education shows that we are taking
the children of Quail Hollow Presbyterian seriously and want them to grow into mature Christian adults.
It is a program that is as fun as it is informative. The basic principle is that church school focuses
for one full month (four to five Sundays) on the same biblical story or theme. There are five workshops
located in different rooms throughout the church. The children rotate each week to a different workshop.
One week they may be presenting a puppetry play on Noah, the next they will be working on a computer quiz
game to sharpen their biblical skills. The program is meant to provide variety as well as repetitively
reinforce important concepts and ideas. It also takes into account that different children learn in
different ways. The program puts the child first! Again, the program is FUN. Workshops capture and
direct creative energy. Classroom activities allow them to move. Children like the anticipation of what
new and exciting workshop they will participate in each week. To put it simply: Kids enjoy themselves,
they learn more and they grow deeper in their faith in God.
The Rotation Classrooms are the following:
* The Learning Temple: This workshop is designed to teach the basics of the months topic or story.
It is in lesson format along with games and skill building activities to reinforce the subject matter.
* Good News Playhouse: This is a movie theater where videos will be shown about the topic for the month.
* Faith Expressions: Here the children will learn skills in artistic expression such as puppetry,
drama and music. They will also learn skills in worship, prayer and spirituality.
* Creation Station: Each week the children in this workshop will create an art project that coincides
with the monthly them and story.
* The Church Mouse: This is our computer lab. The children will learn by using education software,
quizzes and games to learn and grow.
