Uptown Men's Shelter
Contact the Church Office
The Uptown Men's Shelter is the only year round shelter in Charlotte. Its mission is to care for people who are homeless and provide them with opportunities to rebuild their lives. The shelter can house just over 200 men. The residents are screened prior to admission. Some of them qualify for the transitional program and are given training in such daily life skills as food preparation and paying bills, and job training to prepare them for a life off the streets. The goal of the transitional program is to channel the residents into permanent housing and permanent employment. Some require medical, dental, or psychological intervention. These services are provided on site at the shelter or arrangements are made for the residents to receive them in the community. As you can see, the shelter provides not only a bed, but also a variety of services.
